Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at info@petesplug.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Absolutely! We have no order minimums.

Yes! We use 316 grade stainless steel and our new lead free brass line qualifies, too.

Pete’s Plug® is the #1 pressure and temperature test plug (P/T port) used around the world. It is permanently installed in a line so you can take a reading with a pressure gauge using our adapters or thermometer. Two self-closing valves reseal the port. You do not need to leave a gauge on the system. Saving time and money!

Peterson Equipment Co., Inc. Charles “Pete” D. Peterson Jr. invented the plug in 1965 and formed the company in 1969. It is still family-owned and family-operated by the third generation, Pete's grandkids Amanda and John.

  1. Install the plug at the test point (use thread sealant on NPT/BSP threads).
  2. Remove the strapped cap.
  3. Insert a compatible pressure needle or temperature probe through the two self-closing valves.
  4. Take the reading.
  5. Withdraw the probe and immediately replace the cap.

The cap is an extra seal and keeps debris out of the valves. The strap is color coordinated to identify the type of core material, blue for neoprene and yellow for nordel.

*Always follow the instructions and safety guidelines - located under the Instructions tab.

  • Blue strap / neoprene core — typically specified for natural gas. Lower temperature range.
  • Yellow strap / Nordel (EPDM) core — typically specified for hydronic / HVAC / water. Higher temperature range.

Match the core to the fluid. Always confirm with the product guide and compatibility chart.

We offer Brass, 316 Grade Stainless Steel, and Lead Free Brass. Our core systems are made from Neoprene or Nordel (EPDM) proprietary materials. We offer sizes from 1/4", 1/2", 3/8", with lengths of 1.5" and 3" long. We also offer NPT, UNF, BSP, and BSPP threadings. A full list of all products offered is under the "Product Guide" tab and "Spec Sheets" tab. It's important to note that genuine Peterson Equipment Inc., Co. plugs have an engraved label Pete's Plug® on the body and cap.

Up to 1,500 PSI, with continuous temperatures around 200°F for neoprene and 275°F for Nordel. Always use the current spec sheet and instruction sheet for the exact model. Always replace the cap immediately after the reading. Please click on our tab titled "Instruction Sheet" for full information and all safety protocols.

Natural gas systems, hydronic and HVAC piping, hot/chilled water, heat exchangers, pumps, differential readings, air lines, and other process piping. Data Centers, waste water management, drinking systems, food and beverage manufacturing and distilling. They are used from utility meters to clean rooms and other industrial applications. The applications are endless!

Pete’s Plug® is sold through authorized sales representatives and distributors listed under the "Buy Now" tab.

Look for the engraved Pete’s Plug® marking on American brass, lead free brass, or 316 stainless steel bodies and caps, plus the color-coordinated strapped cap. “Pete’s Plug” is a registered trademark. Knockoffs exist; the original is specified for leak-tight performance over time, especially on gas.

Three years from date of shipment for defects in materials and workmanship under normal use. The company may repair, replace, or credit at its discretion. It does not cover misuse, improper installation, unauthorized modification, or normal wear. Sales are final; returns are not accepted except under warranty evaluation. Proof of purchase and product details are required for a claim.

Yes. Products are manufactured in the United States. Documentation available through sales reps includes Buy American Act, BABA, NSF-61 (as applicable), material certs, and other project paperwork.

Use probes and adapters designed to work with Pete’s Plug® (including “blow-out proof” gauges where specified). Lubricate and inspect the probe; burrs or damage can harm the valve cores. Pairing charts and instruction sheets are on the website under each of their designated tabs.

No. Replace the cap immediately after every reading. The cap protects the valves and provides a second seal.
